Best Bootloader For Mac

I'm wanting to use this boot loader on an external hard drive that I've installed High Sierra to. The computer is a MacBook Pro 9,2. I have read so much and I'm very confused. I downloaded the Clover app that puts a little icon in the top menu bar. I'm guessing that's old and not to be used?

I also have the clover configurator 5.9.3.0 and there is so much to setup, I'm lost. The videos go so fast and don't cover everything. Where can I find instructions. This isn't a hackintosh, its a real Mac. Can it be setup so I don't have to hold the option key during boot up and it goes straight to the clover menu? I've been told not to mess with clover because its too advanced for me and to use rEFInd. I'm kinda lost with it too. I also looked at AIOBOOT and I successfully mad a USB that's pretty cool. Works fine with my PC (GA-Z97), I use it only for Mac OS loading.
